High-speed railway and urban train systems, equipped with hollow axles, are frequently used in the transportation industry. Increased travel speeds place higher stresses on these systems requiring special attention to the structural integrity and reliability of trains and their axles.

Krautkrämer's Compact Hollow Axle Tester (CHAT) combines the proven HW probes with Krautkrämer’s high-quality USIP 40 ultrasonic instrument. With up to eight probes in one probe holder, in a diameter range from 30 to 90 millimeters, full A-scan data recording, C-scan displays (separate or merged with TOF correction), and two motorized scanning axes, CHAT offers a typical inspection time of 12 to 15 minutes for an entire axle, while the spiral scan pattern guarantees full coverage of the test object.
